How Reading Blue Coat, an independent school in Berkshire, has been using Morrisby Profile to help students choose their A-Level subjects.
Reading Blue Coat has a co-ed sixth form and in 2023, welcomed its first Year 7 girl students to the school. The school has approximately 850 students and offers a mix of GCSE and A level subjects.
Here from Orla, Harry, James, Ethan, Krushchev and Dan about how it's helped them uncover personal strengths, refine their higher education direction and understand their ambitions...
So I've used Morrisby these since last year in year twelve when I joined the school. And so first of all, I had to do all of the tests and then that came through with job types that would be suited to my strengths, I guess. At end of year ten, in conjunction with our, end of year exams, we took Morrisby just, just sort of give us an indicator for the steps beyond, year eleven and beyond GCSEs. So we did more as being towards the beginning of year eleven.
So we did a test to see what we think we'd do. And I think I've really case of my A-Level choices towards that, just to give me a good vision of what I want to do.
I took a Morrisby test in year eleven last year, and it really helped me when it came to determining what subjects I wanted to continue on with India twelve for my A-Level subjects. There are loads of little surveys on there and how you're getting on and where you'd like to go for university. And I think just doing those will help you get deeper insight into your future.
Morrisby Psychometric Testing
When we first used Morrisby, we did the full test all in one go. It wasn't too long. But there are a lot of questions that make you think about what you really want to do, and that did help a lot even throughout the tests that we were doing.
It asks a lot of questions, a lot of questions about my personality, which you don't really get from, like, if a teacher was to ask you, there'd be much more academic based questions, I think the fact that it's personal questions about your personal interests is really useful.
It was pretty much bang on point - encapsulated to me perfectly, to be honest.
It reassured me that I could actually become what I wanted to be. A politician condition, or, a teacher, or, a writer, that kind of thing, a journalist, especially a journalist.
Exploring Universities & Higher Education with Morrisby
Morrisby please help me when looking at uni's, obviously, got the feature, which has a lot of information about unis, about the courses, about the modules, about the predicted grades. So that's been very helpful to me. I've used the personal statement feature most recently to sort of plan my personal statement, how to structure it, how to keep it concise, and focused on what they want, the unis want to see.
I think the biggest thing is using it to look at what jobs it would suggest for me, give them a go and see where, you know, where I might take those, if that's really for me. It's also quite interesting looking at where it selects for you rather than look at your predicted grades. So you kind of, oh, what am I going to end up doing later on in life? I think it's good. It gives you a real insight into, into your future.
The job predictions, it had aerospace for me, and I've never considered it now. I actually have quite an interest in like aerodynamics to aerospace. So they predicted that quite well.
It definitely helped me to figure out where exactly my best strengths were, which did help when it came down to which areas I wanted to go into. It showed me a couple, like, more positions in politics and law that I wasn't aware that it recommended to me, and I think I'd really enjoy.
It's helped me to kind of decide previous to my UCAS application or anything like that, what you diversities I'm gunning for.
Recommending Morrisby
I definitely recommend Morrisby for finding out, what's what subjects you want to do and what passions you have and where your strengths truly lie.
There's not really many other platforms like that you can use that is so specific to the testing. So I think that was really interesting to me.
I would absolutely recommend Morrisby. Simply because it helps you figure out who you are.
I definitely recommend Morrisby. I think it's really useful, especially to see where you want to go in future.
What the school said
At Reading Blue Coat School, we initially use Morrisby Profile in Year 10 to help our students decide which A-Level options are best matched with their skills and aptitudes. Students and their parents have found the report very informative, and as a school we find results often back up what the student was thinking of studying at sixth form.
We revisit Morrisby Profile results in Year 12 when it is used by students during dedicated careers lessons. Each new student entering the sixth form also completes the program and assessments. Sixth form students can choose to retake the preferences and priorities assessments to see how their views and values have evolved. At this stage they consider their results in more depth. The majority of our students go on to university from Blue Coat, and the Morrisby Profile and Careers journey helps identify the correct route for each student.
We have been very pleased to use Morrisby with our students. The interactive nature and user friendliness of the website is fantastic. The reports generated have been very useful to parents too. - Will Nash‐Wortham Head of Careers
