Group Feedback
Group feedback sessions can be useful for explaining to a whole group of candidates the rationale of the tests, the structure of the report, what is and isn't measured and how the conclusions are derived. It is also an opportunity to explain to candidates what happens next, including the interview schedule and so on. Candidates will also be able to ask questions or consider issues they may want to raise later when one to one with their adviser.
We would advise against using group sessions as an opportunity to answer questions specifically related to individual client's results. Instead, we would suggest that group feedback be used to provide the general information which would otherwise have to be repeated for each individual client. Used in this way, group feedback can lead to a more focussed and relevant individual interview, allowing the best use to be made of whatever time there is available.
If you decide to hold a group feedback session then you should schedule this for a maximum of 25 candidates. It should last for about an hour.
It is also is recommended that you try to space out the candidates so that they are unable to see each others' reports!
The Feedback Session
As for the feedback session itself, it is suggested that you divide this up into four parts:
1. Introduction
In the introduction you should explain:
- The purpose of session is to help them understand their reports.
- The reports are personal and confidential and the candidates should not compare reports.
- This is a general session and candidates with specific questions on their own results should raise these individually after the group session.
- All candidates will have access to a trained Morrisby Administrator.
2. Explanation
Having distributed the reports to the candidates, you can:
- Give background information about the tests.
- Give an overview of the individual tests and briefly explain the scoring system.
- Explain that pattern or shape of results is the most important feature. They indicate strengths on which a successful career can be built.
- Go through a report explaining what the candidates should look for in each section.
- Point out that questionnaire results show how candidates view themselves at the present time.
- Detail how career suggestions are derived.
Important: Remind candidates that career suggestions are not definitive, nor absolute. They are merely suggestions. - Explain the purpose of interview.
3. Next steps
Encourage students to:
- Read their report.
- Discuss it with family and parents.
- Formulate a plan.
- Obtain information and consider what work experience would be appropriate.
4. Conclusion
- Arrange to answer specific questions raised by individuals at a suitable time outside the group feedback session.
- Give information on the individual interview schedule.
- Collect the reports in.
