MGS Group Overview
A group session introducing the Morrisby Guidance Service should include the following information:
Overview of the MGS
The MGS provides objective and positive careers guidance. It identifies personal strengths which may not have come to light in the school situation and shows how these can be developed.
Elements of the System
- Looks at careers interests by asking candidates to complete an interest inventory called the MCQ.
- Identifies aptitudes and underlying personality characteristics by using the test results from the Morrisby Profile.
- Allows for an objective and comprehensive discussion of results with a careers adviser.
The MCQ
- Ascertains the pattern of interests and is completed before the MP session.
- Contains a careers inventory and personal details such as age, examination subjects or career history (according to type of questionnaire).
- Highlights what sort of jobs candidates are currently considering and what they see as being particularly important in a job.
N.B. It should be emphasised that the MCQ results do not influence those of the Morrisby Profile.
The Morrisby Profile
- The Morrisby Profile identifies personal strengths, styles and personality characteristics which will be important at work.
- Since many job skills are not taught at school, it is essential to identify these skills in years 10/11 immediately before decisions about careers, further education and training are taken.
- It is not an exam. No-one can pass of fail a Morrisby Profile. The results are intended to supplement existing knowledge of the candidate.
Feedback
- Each candidate will receive a detailed report, of typically 21 pages, which will describe personal strengths, interests and aptitudes.
- The report will suggest a range of career options selected for the candidate from an extensive database.
- The report is confidential and everyone will have the opportunity to discuss their report individually.
Practical Arrangements
- Provide details of the date by which they need to have returned their registration form for the MGS
- Give details of the date and time of MCQ session or when the MCQ will be distributed.
- Provide details of the date and venue, starting time and duration of the Morrisby profile session.
- Remind the candidates they will be occupied for about three and a half hours and all conflicting arrangements should be cancelled.
- Candidates need only bring their reading glasses if they wear them. Everything else is provided.
- Give details of the timing and method of Feedback.
